MODS Note
  • The Irish Bend School is significant as a very intact example of an early 20th century school in rural Benton County. It i.e the only example of a two story, wood frame schoolhouse in the county. The buildin g 's continued use as a school makes this one of only two early 20th century schools in the southeastern portion of the county still used for Educational purposes. Many of the other early school buildings have been altered or moved. The building has also played an important Allrole in the social life of the Irish Bend Community with the school 10, building's second floor having been used as a community hall and auditorium. The Irish Bend School was built in 1914 to replace an earlier school located some distance to the north of the current school. The second story of the new school was initially used as a high school. After the high school students were transported to Monroe High School, the upstairs became a community hall. For many years, this relatively large rural school building was actually a one room school, with other rooms u5ed again only beginning in the 1950's.
